How to Install Oracle VirtualBox 5.2 on Ubuntu 17.10/16.04, Debian 9/8

This article helps you to install VirtualBox on Ubuntu 17.10, 16.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS and Debian 9/8/7 systems.

Prerequisite

After login to your system update current packages of system to latest version using sudo privilege or root user.

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade

Configure Apt Repository

Add Oracle VirtualBox PPA to Ubuntu system. You can do this by running the below command on your system.

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian `lsb_release -cs` contrib"

This command will add an entry to /etc/apt/sources.list at end of file.

Import VirtualBox Package Sign Key

After adding the required apt repository on your system, download and import the Oracle public key for apt-secure using following commands.

wget -q https://www.virtualbox.org/download/oracle_vbox_2016.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
wget -q https://www.virtualbox.org/download/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Install Oracle VirtualBox

The following commands will install oracle virtualbox

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-5.2

Launch Virtual Box

Goto Launcher and type “virtualbox”
